Sombart (Japanese: ゾンバルト) was an Imperial rear admiral who served under Reinhard von Lohengramm. In 799 UC (1 NIC / 490 IC / 3599 CE), just prior to the Battle of Vermilion, he was charged with escorting a large group of supply ships en route from the Imperial mainland to the new military base being established on the planet Uruvasi. Despite his confident assurance that he would succeed in this mission and boastfully offering up his own life as guarantee, the supply vessels under his charge ultimately fell to an Alliance attack, and he was punished accordingly by Reinhard. (LOGH: 'Battle After Battle')
He, like his associate Vice Admiral Thurneysen, was ambitious and saw the opportunity for career advancement diminishing with the conclusion of the war. As a result, both were aggressive and rash in their actions during Operation Ragnarök. (LOGH: 'The Cold Spell Arrives', 'Battle After Battle', 'The Battle of Vermilion (Part One)').
